Reading your Virality predictor score

What each number on the Virality predictor means: the overall score, hook score, still watching estimate, attention curve, cuts and the seven checks.

Updated · 6 min read

Key takeaways

  • The Virality predictor reads signals measured from your file: motion, sound, cuts, length, framing and picture. It does not know your audience, so treat it as a check, not a promise.
  • The overall score weighs the hook most heavily at 40 percent, then the estimated share still watching at 20 percent, pacing at 15, length and framing at 10 each, and picture at 5.
  • A score of 65 or more means the clip is likely to hold attention; under 40 means the opening needs work before you post.

How the predictor works

When you drop a clip, the predictor watches it frame by frame in your browser. It samples the picture five times a second for most clips, measures how much each frame changes, how bright and contrasty it is, and how loud the sound is. Nothing is uploaded.

The attention curve

The blue line shows how much is happening at each moment, combining motion and sound. The dashed line estimates the share of viewers still watching. The shaded area marks the first three seconds, and the small ticks along the bottom are the cuts the predictor found. The Peak label marks the moment with the most going on.

The seven checks

  • Opening motion: Still, Some or Moving, from the first 1.5 seconds.
  • Sound at the start: Silent, Quiet or Loud in the first second, or No sound if the clip has no audio.
  • First change: when the first cut or big change happens. One second or less scores best.
  • Pacing: how many cuts the clip has.
  • Length: the clip's duration.
  • Framing: Vertical, Square or Horizontal.
  • Picture: Punchy, Flat, Dark or Washed out.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Virality predictor accurate?
It measures real signals in your file, like motion, sound and cuts, which strongly affect watch time. It cannot know your audience or the trend of the day, so use it as a check before posting.
Does the predictor upload my video?
No. It runs in your browser and your clip never leaves your device.
What is a good Virality score?
65 or more means the clip is likely to hold attention. 85 or more is rare and means the opening and pacing are both strong.
