Choosing the right AI video model for the shot
Models · Sep 25, 2026 · 5 min read
Video credits add up quickly because they are charged per second. Picking the right model for each stage of a project saves most of the cost.
Draft cheap, finish expensive
Use a fast, low-cost model at 480p or 720p to test the idea, the camera move and the timing. Once the motion is right, regenerate the winner on a premium model at 1080p.
Text to video or image to video
Text to video is great for exploring. When you need a specific look, a specific product or the same character across shots, generate a still image first and animate it. You get far more control.
Mind the duration
- Social ads: 5 to 8 seconds is usually enough.
- Hero loops: 8 to 12 seconds.
- Longer single takes: only some models can hold a scene together for 20 to 30 seconds, and they cost more.
Sound
Several models can generate synced sound. Turn it off while drafting to save credits, and back on for the final cut.
