Keeping a character consistent across images and video
Prompting · Sep 11, 2026 · 5 min read
Generating the same person twice is one of the hardest things to get right. A few habits make it much easier.
Write a character sheet
Decide the details once and paste the same description every time: age, face shape, hair, eye color, one signature item of clothing. Changing even one word can change the face.
Use a reference image
Generate one strong portrait, save it, and attach it as a reference for every following shot. Image editing models keep identity far better than text alone.
Animate stills instead of prompting video from scratch
For video, generate the exact frame you want as an image first, then animate it. The character in the first frame is locked in.
